Review

To get away with one murder is shocking, but it beggars belief that somebody could strangle up to 93 women across the US without being caught. Samuel Little had been in prison for four years, convicted of three murders, when he confessed – in great detail, as we hear in never-before-heard audio tapes – to a string of killings, mainly of black sex workers or addicts.

And that, film-maker Ben Zand believes, is why this prolific killer was on the loose for so long. He targeted individuals that he thought wouldn’t be missed and that the police – despite their denials – wouldn’t bother with. It’s chilling on every count.

Summary

Samuel Little claims to have killed up to 93 women across various US states over four decades, with the FBI confirming they have good reason to believe that he was responsible for over half of those murders. Travelling from California to Mississippi, film-maker Ben Zand tries to get to the bottom of how such a prolific killer was on the loose for so long and why the victims were allowed to pile up, seemingly unnoticed.
