Memory

Series 10 - Episode 5 Memory

Review

Lee Mack and his writing team indulge in a bit of brazen showing off: this is a single-scene episode in real time, as Lucy (Sally Bretton) tries to watch her favourite box set and has to endure Lee prattling on annoyingly throughout. That’s it for the whole half-hour, but it’s not a drag because it’s the show in its purest form, a constant trade of put-downs and wisecracks.

The fun starts when Lee can’t place an actor on the screen and insists on remembering the name himself, rather than look it up in an excellent listings magazine. Could his lapse be a sign of early-onset dementia, or is that just hypochondria talking? The script pulls every trick in the comic dialogue book to stop the conversation flagging – successfully.

Summary

Lee interrupts Lucy's favourite TV programme by plonking himself down next to her on the sofa, eating her chocolates and talking loudly all the way through the dialogue. But when he suddenly can't remember the name of the leading actor and his hypochondria tells him he is losing his memory, Lucy's evening is completely ruined.
