Review

All is not well in the royal household. “I used to be his friend, his companion. Now I feel I’m just his wife,” complains Victoria because Albert is obsessed with his Great Exhibition plans. He’s spending all his time deep in conversation with Mr Cole, his energetic colleague from the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce.

As the press are ridiculing his project on a daily basis, Victoria toys with a way to distract him from what she sees as a potential catastrophe, until a comment from Lord Palmerston convinces her to support her husband in his dream. Meanwhile, Sophie’s illicit dalliance with a footman ends in a truly distressing way.

Summary

Albert unveils ambitious plans for an international exhibition - but has to find a way to fund it. Lord Palmerston causes uproar when he sends the navy in to blockade Greece after an attack on a British subject, and Monmouth hires Penge to spy on Sophie and Joseph - which leads to him discovering revealing information about Joseph's time at Chatsworth.
