Review

“A little bit karaoke if I’m honest,” says Geri Horner, explaining why she didn’t like one singer’s performance. Well, sure. When the idea of the show is amateurs singing cover versions of pop songs, a little bit of karaoke is hard to avoid, isn’t it? Rule that out and the whole soufflé collapses.

And we wouldn’t want that, because All Together Now packs a lot of entertainment, not just in the singers’ leather-lunged auditions, but with all the business that tops up the show – the chit-chat between Rob Beckett and the 100 judges, the quirky interviews that hopefuls give beforehand and so on. And in dry, hard-to-please judge Paulus, the show has unearthed a TV natural.

Summary

Rob Beckett hosts the musical talent show with a twist, as a range of singers step on-stage for a chance to win a £50,000 cash prize. The judging panel takes the form of `The 100', a large collective of music experts and performers from all over the UK. However, in this talent show, the key to success is encouraging the judges to sing along too, and the more panellists each singer manages to win over, the better their chances of proceeding to the grand final. This week's contestants perform tracks by Bruno Mars, Zayn Malik, Freddie Mercury and Shirley Bassey.
