The Cabaret Task

Series 1 - Episode 1 The Cabaret Task

“What was you doing?” is Lord Sugar’s favoured way of putting Apprentice hopefuls on the spot, and it’s also what viewers might reasonably ask of the celebrity version. What has it been doing for the last decade and why haven’t we seen it on our screens?

In the past, the charity-themed spin-off has thrown up deliciously odd moments, red in tooth and manicured fingernail. Who could forget the hotel-room scuffle that broke out when Piers Morgan and Alastair Campbell kidnapped Trinny Woodall’s chef in the 2007 edition? Let’s hope for similar madness this time round as two teams compete to stage a themed cabaret.

A preview wasn’t available but when you gather that the men’s team will accommodate the egos of football manager Sam Allardyce and presenter Rylan Clark-Neal, we can keep fingers crossed for fireworks. The women’s team may be calmer with Rachel Johnson, Amanda Holden, EastEnders actor Tameka Empson and former Dragons’ Den star Kelly Hoppen hoping to outdo the males in raising funds for Comic Relief.

Alan Sugar challenges two teams of famous faces to organise and host a themed cabaret night in less than 48 hours, under the critical eye of Karren Brady and Claude Littner. Taking part are Rylan Clark-Neal, Sam Allardyce, Russell Kane, Omid Djalili, Richard Arnold, Kelly Hoppen, Tameka Empson, Ayda Williams, Rachel Johnson and Amanda Holden. They have to call on their contacts, plead with the public, provide the catering and even perform. But as the deadline approaches, who will have made the most money?
