Fleabag

Series 2 - Episode 1

Review

A chance to relive the second series of the very funny but jet-black TV show starring and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The first episode, shown earlier in 2019, joins Fleabag (the tragi-comic heroine’s name is never explained) as she’s summoned to a meal out with her dreaded, passive-aggressive family. They’re "celebrating" the engagement of Dad (Bill Paterson) to her snake-like godmother (Olivia Colman on top form). Fleabag locks horns with her sleazy brother-in-law (Brett Gelman) and is rather taken by a new face - the Priest (Andrew Scott).

Fleabag remains one of the very best, sharpest comedies on TV, with writing that takes your breath away.

Summary

Return of the comedy written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, following a woman wrestling with the demands of modern living. Fleabag attends an uncomfortable family dinner alongside her sister Claire and brother-in-law Martin, to celebrate her godmother and father's engagement, where she finds herself intrigued by a priest. The evening comes to a tempestuous end however, when an unexpected attack brings old tensions bubbling to the surface. With Bill Paterson, Olivia Colman and Andrew Scott.
