Kilimanjaro: The Bigger Red Nose Climb

Episode 1 Kilimanjaro: The Bigger Red Nose Climb

Judging by the reports that had come in at the time of writing, this latest charity celeb attempt to scale Africa’s highest mountain will feature plenty of tears and heartache. Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has revealed that she’s “not an outdoorsy person”, so that bodes well when she’s attempting to valiantly climb 19,000 feet over eight days. Dani Dyer, meanwhile, whose last overseas TV trip was to the Love Island villa, has already said of the experience so far: “We haven’t stopped crying”.

It’s been a decade since the likes of Gary Barlow and Alesha Dixon tried something similar. But this time around, the new bunch (which also includes Dan Walker, Alexander Armstrong and Anita Rani) will be taking on a tougher, longer route that will see them spend even more time at extreme altitude. There will also be insights into how Comic Relief’s funds are working both in the UK and internationally: Ed Balls, for instance, is reporting from Uganda, where he visits a project fighting malaria.

Inexperienced climbers Shirley Ballas, Ed Balls, Anita Rani, Dani Dyer, Alexander Armstrong, Dan Walker, Osi Umenyiora, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock undertake an arduous eight-day trek scaling Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Ten years since Gary Barlow, Alesha Dixon, Fearne Cotton, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Ben Shephard, Ronan Keating, Denise Van Outen and Chris Moyles completed the challenge, the new recruits are taking on a tougher, longer route, and are likely to spend even more time at extreme altitude. Cameras follow their experiences.
