Series 1 - Episode 1 Vikings v Byzantines

Review

To give Knight Fight some credit, I’ve never seen anything like it before. The trouble is, I’m not sure I’d ever want to see it again. The set-up is astonishing: modern fighters (mostly bald, bearded, broad as barn doors and with nicknames like “Trash Panda”) dress up in armour and smack the life out of each other with blunted battleaxes in a series of showdowns (this week Vikings v Byzantines), all overseen by wrestler Jay Reso (catchphrase: “Ready – FIGHT!”) But it’s basically just an hour of deafening, clanging metal, plus it’s hard to tell who’s who because they’re all wearing visors.

I’d be tempted to take part myself, but groin attacks are ruled out and my only strategy would be to chance a lucky crotch kick before running away screaming.

Summary

For centuries, knights were the ultimate warriors, but now those who dream of testing their worth in medieval-style warfare must risk life and limb in a series of challenges to see who will reign supreme. Four fighters are paired for the Team Melee in which they must adopt and adapt to the implements of the Vikings and Byzantine armies of the 10th century. Hosted and judged by WWE superstar Jay `Christian' Reso.
