Review

It’s not easy being Top Gear these days. Fans don’t dislike it as much as they did in the Chris Evans interregnum, but they don’t love it as much as in its heyday under Clarkson and co either. Now, it’s just a larky car show with knowledgeable presenters and a generous budget. Matt LeBlanc does a perfectly good job as the main host, but with a script that doubles down on stagey banter. The films are as beautifully shot as ever but padded with self-conscious sight gags (Matt fills a Ferrari boot with wood chippings!) and spontaneity that obviously isn’t. Still – Ferraris, Porsches and Suzukis have never looked better.

Summary

Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris go to Norway to test drive the latest estate cars from Porsche and Ferrari, while Rory Reid is joined by racing driver Sabine Schmitz for an unusual motoring challenge - to create Britain's newest mountain with the help of a tiny Suzuki. The team is joined in the studio by Westworld star James Marsden.
