Review

Let’s be honest, it actually was the £15bn railway when this series started in 2014. Now it’s a shade more – by some estimates nearer £16bn. The latest intriguing chapter in the Crossrail story revisits London’s first new underground railway for 20 years, joining engineers and construction workers as they hurry to meet the scheduled launch date of December 2018...

Except, as you may have gathered, that deadline slipped, and the opening is now set for Autumn this year. We also hear from plausible CEO Simon Wright – who later stepped down after a government bailout. At this rate there may be more series.

Summary

Part one of two. Following the final stages of the construction work on the new Elizabeth Line underground railway beneath the streets of London. Cameras follow the engineers, technicians and train staff who are under pressure to complete their section of the project, including building and fitting out 10 brand new stations, learning to drive the new fleet of trains, and testing the 21km twin tunnels beneath London, in a bid to make it safe for the public.
