The guests this show pulls in are extraordinary. The cachet of Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty somehow persuades big stars to travel a couple of hours out of London for what must be the best part of a day’s filming at the Southend Pier “café” (just a set really: it has no life outside the series). And then the guests have to work for their keep, too, cooking dishes for the “customers”.

This week their obliging sous-chef is powerhouse Hollywood actor Jessica Chastain, best known for Zero Dark Thirty and Molly’s Game. As Chastain is a vegan, Jamie and Jimmy come up with a menu of plant-based food, including Jamie’s pea falafel fritter wrap.

Summary

Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain dons an apron at Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty's Southend cafe. In honour of their Hollywood guest, the hosts pull out all the stops and create an all-vegan menu - including a cauliflower tempura summer roll. Jamie rustles up a colourful pea falafel fritter wrap, complete with home-made hummus, crispy chickpeas and epic garnishes, while Jimmy takes the idea of movie night to the next level by building a popcorn maker. The boys also report on the increasing numbers of people choosing to replace dairy milk with plant-based alternatives.
