Review

What with Strictly Come Dancing being the BBC’s biggest entertainment show, it’s no surprise that plenty of Glitterball magic has been peppered throughout The Greatest Dancer. Not only is it presented by a former Strictly winner and judge in Alesha Dixon, it also stars a current professional with “dance captain” Oti Mabuse and even offers the winner the chance to perform in the next series of Strictly, along with a cash prize of £50,000.

New entertainment formats that not only flourish but go on to become even half as successful as Strictly are as rare as hen’s teeth. It’ll be telling to see how many viewers return for tonight’s second episode after they tuned in last Saturday to see what all the fuss was about.

Summary

Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo host a dancing contest, featuring performers from a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, street, ballroom, contemporary and disco, competing for a £50,000 prize and the chance to showcase their skills on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing. Cheryl, Matthew Morrison and Oti Mabuse are on hand to help the competitors make the best use of their talents - but which contestants get to go through the show's magic mirror and make it through to the next round is entirely in the hands of the studio audience.
