Review

Alison Wilson is caught in a maelstrom of emotion as she tries to unpick the lies told by her husband, Alec. Was he ever really a spy who went as deep under cover as it was possible to go? Or was he just a teller of exciting tales, a man who lived a fantasy life?

Alison (Ruth Wilson, playing her own granny in a fascinating Wilson family story) tries to wring the truth from Alec’s handler, Coleman (Fiona Shaw, of Killing Eve, who’s cornered the market in gimlet-eyed spies), and doesn’t like what she hears.

The flashbacks to the early years of Alison and Alec’s marriage are done masterfully – and there’s a lovely surprise at the end.

Faced with conflicting explanations of Alec's past and a startling revelation about his work, she finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew. Drama, starring Ruth Wilson and Iain Glen.
