Review

The working title for this series (probably a better title, to be honest) was A Very Modern Grand Hotel. That more or less sums up the challenge for serene general manager of the Corinthia, Thomas Kochs: to compete with the likes of the Ritz and the Savoy but be “a little bit more cutting edge” – while remaining stupendously plush on all fronts, of course.

All of which means taking risks – like bringing in a pair of Hackney hipsters to cool-ify the bar using things like sandalwood syrup and olive oil bourbon (news to me, too).

A bigger risk, though, is closing one of the hotel’s two restaurants and handing it over to chef Tom Kerridge (you know, off the telly) for a £1.5 million revamp, which includes the introduction of something more usual in a local boozer than a grand hotel – a row of real ales on tap.

Summary

In the conclusion of the documentary about London's Corinthia Hotel, the restaurant is not doing as well as it could and needs a big-name chef to compete with other establishments. Enter Tom Kerridge, most famous for his upmarket fish-and-chips - which is not the usual fare for a five-star hotel. However, he has brought along his artist wife Beth to enhance the space with her sculptures. Will the guests enjoy the new food and art? Meanwhile, managing director Thomas Kochs makes an annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas to a five-star trade convention where he hopes to raise the hotel's profile among the 6,000 delegates.
