Catch-22

Series 1 - Episode 6

Review

There’s a memorable and wrenching sequence in Joseph Heller’s novel where Captain John Yossarian tends to a hideously wounded young airman and it’s handled just perfectly here by director George Clooney in the final episode of Catch-22. You might need time to gather yourself afterwards, such is its raw power.

Yossarian is still flying missions, thanks to the vengeful General Scheisskopf (Clooney), despite a lucky escape after a direct hit. But as the madness, and the sadness, consume him, he is a lost soul, naked and refusing to wear clothes. Christopher Abbott as Yossarian has done a fine job as one of modern literature’s great mavericks, a man who tries so hard to beat the system.

Summary

Alive and intact, Yossarian is thwarted by an old adversary. Confronted by a devastating loss, he undergoes a transformation. Christopher Abbott stars in the comedy drama based on the classic 1961 novel by Joseph Heller, with George Clooney, Kyle Chandler and Daniel David Stewart.
