Episode 1: Episode 1

Summary

Emma returns to complete her training as a maternity care assistant at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, immersing herself in the role over the course of 16 weeks. After a swift debrief, Emma is put straight to work, doing baby checks on newborn twin boys but three days in and she has yet to see a birth - but that all changes when she is asked to assist with a water birth

Review

t’s been an apt nine months since Emma Willis last worked on the baby unit at the Princess Alexandra hospital in Harlow, Essex, and she’s now returning to complete her training to become a fully qualified maternity care assistant. She’s nervous about coming back, and on day three is exclaiming: “I’m going to be a wreck by the end of this.”

There’s often something trite about celebrities stepping into the real world of work, and although the TV presenter is incredibly keen and willing to help, she usually ends up standing aside while the professionals do their jobs. Still, her enthusiasm is unabated and it’s not hard to get swept up vicariously with her emotion as babies are born and she joins new mums and dads in tears.
