Liverpool is proud host as netball’s biggest event gets under way, with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland involved in the first group stage – Wales didn’t qualify, sadly. The game is experiencing a huge surge in popularity, not surprisingly after England’s thrilling gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 14 months ago, and the Roses now sit second in the rankings behind World Cup holders Australia.

Northern Ireland are the first Home Nation on court, with the daunting task of taking on the Aussies (centre-pass 11am), England face Uganda (7pm) and Scotland play Samoa (7.25pm). Sky Mix has been renamed Sky Netball for the tournament, and the initial group matches will be on various Sky channels — but from Monday’s secondary stage onwards, matches will also be shown on BBC2 and BBC online. Netball is a fast-paced, athletic game and there’ll be much excitement between now and the final on Sunday 21 July.
