Review
by
David Butcher
This week, an electric car special. Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris build themselves budget electric sports cars, ranging from an old Triumph Spitfire stuffed with batteries taken from a BMW i3 (Harris) to a common-or-garden Nissan Leaf given absurd wing doors (McGuinness).
In the best scene they must drive through a handling test on a karting track, and each time they hit the barriers they get an electric shock. It descends into hilariously childish silliness, cruelty and swearing of a kind that feels entirely right for
Top Gear
.
Also tonight, Chris Harris tries out the new Tesla Model 3 and decides it is essentially, “an AK-47 disguised as a butter knife”.
Summary
Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness present an electric cars special, each taking up the challenge of constructing a battery-powered sports car on a budget. Plus, Chris takes the Tesla Model 3 for a spin on the test track. Plus, Danny Boyle and Himesh Patel, director and star of fantasy comedy Yesterday, drop into the studio.
