Review

Canfranc is a huge railway station at the heart of the largely defunct Trans-Pyrenees line between France and Spain. It’s an astonishing building that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

During its pomp Canfranc hosted parties for the Nazis and was at the epicentre of a dirty trade in Nazi gold and treasures. Now, as this informative and straightforward documentary shows, it’s largely derelict, though there are plans to turn it into a hotel on the re-opened line.

The construction of the actual railway cost many lives, thanks mainly to the need to use dynamite to blow through rocks and mountains. Today one of its tunnels houses a spectacular science laboratory.

Summary
