Review

England reach the halfway point in their series of nine round-robin matches mindful of the need to be wary, even against Afghanistan, the team widely regarded as the weakest of the ten contending for cricket’s ultimate prize.

The supposedly second-weakest, Pakistan, inflicted a shock defeat on the hosts earlier in the tournament so nothing should be taken for granted at Old Trafford today. But if the Afghans are going to pull off something even more sensational, they’ll surely need a big performance from their star batsman Rahmat Shah.

Stick around for tonight’s opener in a three-match Twenty20 series between England women and West Indies women, live from Northampton.
