Review

Think of this US import as a very basic kung fu Peaky Blinders set in 1870s San Francisco. It has a lot of fighting, a lot of sex and plenty of period colour, topped off with mood sequences set to rock music. In other words it’s trashy, pulpy fun and it won’t be winning any Emmys.

The original idea came, we’re told, from Bruce Lee, and involves a mysterious fighter, with remarkable martial arts skills, arriving from China to become a player in the gang wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Ah Sahm (charismatic Andrew Koji) likes to trash talk every heavy he meets, then pulverise them into next week. Like the show, it’s simple but effective.

Summary

Martial arts prodigy Ah Sahm arrives in San Francisco from China under mysterious circumstances and is hired a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown's most powerful organised crime families. As he searches for a woman who left China two years earlier, he crosses paths with Mai Ling and Li Yong, followers of rival tong leader Long Zii, who is trying to avoid an opium war with the Hop Wei. Crime drama based set in the 1870s and on an original concept by Bruce Lee, starring Andrew Koji.
