They certainly don’t stint on the hotel accommodation in this series: Frank Skinner’s luxurious penthouse suite costs £3,000 a night. If that’s not enough to encourage him to join the super cool Richard Ayoade for a whistle-stop tour of Zürich, he’s promised a visit to the FIFA World Football Museum. Yet weirdly, Skinner’s highlight is his dada baptism at Cabaret Voltaire.
Zürich, Ayoade tells us, brought us velcro, milk chocolate and “my one-time adversary the vegetable stock cube”, but their focus is on cheese fondue, a funicular and Swiss Army knives – Ayoade wants to inscribe his with “Knife to see you, to see you knife.”
Crystal Maze presenter Richard Ayoade returns with the offbeat tourism show and is joined in the first edition by comedian and Room 101 host Frank Skinner for a short break in Switzerland's largest city. Their two-day break in Zurich features trips to a football museum and the Cabaret Voltaire, which was the birthplace of the Dada art movement, while they also go on the steepest funicular railway in the world, pay homage to the Swiss army knife and go for a pedalo ride on Lake Zurich.
