Britain by Bike with Larry & George Lamb

Series 2 - Episode 1 Northumberland

Actor Larry Lamb and his son George do a bit of familial bonding on another cycling trip around Britain’s tourist hot spots. Britain by Bike demands nothing of its audience and demands little of its presenters either, they just have to pedal and exclaim, as George does endlessly, at how everything they see is “amazing”.

The pair potter around Northumberland doing that have-a-go thing presenters always do. So when they fetch up in Craster, famous for its kippers, they visit a smokery, do a bit of herring-gutting, then hang fish on tenterhooks to be blasted by smoke.

No trip to the North East would be complete without Larry and George attempting Geordie accents and singing Blaydon Races as they ride up to Chillingham Castle, reputedly the most haunted castle in the UK. Cue a few larks as George tries to scare his dad.

The father-and-son duo explore Northumberland, where Larry is able to indulge his passion for Roman history as they cycle along a section of Hadrian's Wall, built 5,000 years ago. The area's coast is famous for its kippers, so Larry and George head to the town of Craster for breakfast where they find a fourth generation family-run smokehouse and see how the kippers are prepared. Despite his scepticism, Larry agrees to check into Britain's supposedly most haunted castle, where the pair wait for the ghostly blue boy to appear.
