While the latest run of The Big Bang Theory ended in May, this precocious offshoot has done decent business for E4. When they were shown on the same night, Sheldon crept up on and even bettered his parent’s ratings. And that’s no accident. While Big Bang has been steadily running out of gas, the new guy is fresh and funny, confident and relaxed.
Everyone in Shelly’s eccentric family has been terrifically cast, with the fabulous Annie Potts stealing it as the lovably mischievous Meemaw. Tonight, her character is dated by a physics professor, played by Wallace Shawn – who I can never see without saying “inconceivable” in deference to his criminal mastermind Vizzini in The Princess Bride.
While Sheldon is busy obsessing over the status of Meemaw's budding relationship with his mentor, Dr Sturgis, George and Mary attempt to bond with their other kids.
