“If I don’t do it, I get cravings to come out and do it,” says Eric Clapton, not referring to drink or drugs but to performing live. And, specifically, to fans rather than playing at financially rewarding corporate events.

This rock-doc follows the guitarist and his “house band” (which includes Paul Carrack and Steve Gadd) on their 2014 tour of Japan, Singapore, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Backstage and concert footage (with close-ups of his fretwork that’ll please guitar nerds) underscores Clapton talking candidly about music, “the dark days” of his addictions, life on the road and retirement – which he says he’s been talking about since his Yardbirds days.
