Before this series began, Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon said this year would prove to be the “battle of the singers”. Indeed, for a programme so proud of its variety credentials, many of the memorable and talented performers this year have been vocalists, including four out of the five Golden Buzzer acts. A question I never thought I’d ask, but where were all the dancing dogs this year?
Now the finalists who were voted through from last week’s live semi-finals will be returning for the last time, hoping to win not only the whopping prize money (£250,000 last year), but also a spot on the bill at the Royal Variety Performance.
It’s been an enjoyable, but perhaps not vintage, series — so far, at least. As RT went to press, the live shows had yet to begin. Let’s hope there’s life in the old dog yet.
Declan Donnelly hosts the live final of the nationwide talent search as the 12th series draws to a climax. A wide variety of acts have stepped in front of judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams eager to impress, and tonight the remaining contestants - Lost Voice Guy, the D-Day Darlings, Donchez Dacres, Calum Courtney, Robert White, Gruffydd Wyn Roberts, DVJ, Jack & Tim, Micky P Kerr, the Giang Brothers and wildcard act B Positive Choir - will be putting in one last performance to earn the votes of the viewing public and get the chance to be crowned champion, win £250,000 and take to the stage in a coveted slot at this year's Royal Variety Performance. Last in the series.
