Turning home-made food into a successful business is tough. There’s so much more to it than simply having a cracking product as four artisan food producers discover when they set up their stalls in a Yorkshire Dales farm shop. They must impress restaurateur Nisha Katona and School of Artisan Food founder Alison Swan Parente as well as make customers part with their money. Tom Kerridge, of course, is encouragement personified.
The experts advise them to tell the story behind the product – maybe it’s a family recipe or it uses vegetables from their garden – but they look at branding, viability and marketing skills too. After two days will the runner bean chutney, crunchy peanut butter, apple and chilli jelly or Filipino pickle go through to the final?
Summary
Four food producers with fledgling businesses test out their products on the locals in Malhamdale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. They have two days in the shop to promote and sell their wares. This time it's makers of preserves, pickles and spreads battling it out for a place in the final. Tom Kerridge meets members of the community as they try the unusual preserves. Meanwhile, judges Alison Swan Parente and Nisha Katona visit the food producers at home to see how well their product is made.
