“I’m not sure about a city so dedicated to urinating,” says Richard Ayoade, because EU Central, as he and guest traveller Lee Mack call it, has a remarkable number of bronze statuettes peeing.
While they saunter around Brussels, checking out the famous Atomium, a comic-strip museum, a puppet show and restaurants, they fire off statistics and one-liners at machine-gun speed. “There are two things I love. Chocolate and shoplifting. Let’s go inside,” jokes Lee about the shop where praline was invented. And gazing at a miniature diorama of London, he wonders what will happen to the display after Brexit. It’s awkward, concludes Richard.
Richard Ayoade returns with offbeat tourism show and is joined in the first edition by comedian and Not Going Out star Lee Mack for a short break in the Belgian capital. Their two-day trip features culture, comics, pralines, puppets and attractions both large and small, including the Grand Place and the famous atom-shaped Atomium, as well as waffles, mussels - including Moules Ghenghis Khan - and the secrets of chocolate-making.
