Some have suggested Lee Mack’s long-running sitcom lost its edge when it moved from following star-crossed singletons in Docklands to relaunch as a comedy about that old sitcom chestnut, family life in suburbia.
For my money, it took on a new lease of life with the change, but I do agree that when Lee and Lucy’s children feature prominently, they can feel like a distraction, brilliantly though the three junior actors play them.
That’s the case tonight, as the episode explores what happens when Lee reluctantly agrees to let the kids get a pet rabbit – and ends up with something rather less appealing. It’s not the show’s wittiest half-hour, but Lee ties himself in knots like a circus contortionist.
Summary
Lee and Lucy get a family pet in an attempt to teach the children to be more responsible. But as ever, things do not quite work out as planned. Domestic comedy, starring Lee Mack and Sally Bretton, with a guest appearance from former EastEnders actress Annette Badland (Aunt Babe).
