Day 408

Series 2 - Episode 1 Day 408

Review

Good timing benefited this Good Wife spin-off in its first series, which was (re)written and filmed just as Donald Trump was taking power and was thus able to offer one of US drama’s first explicit responses to the new political reality. Since then, every show on the box has had its say and so, as Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and her fellow lawyers return, there’s a need for a slight rejig, which the show confidently announces by writing out two characters almost instantly.

We can expect more extended story arcs this year too, starting with the trial of Maia (Rose Leslie) and continuing with the Chicago legal profession itself coming under fire. As this opening episode’s Trump-referencing title (Day 408) implies, though, the wider theme is still whether Diane and co can maintain their ballsy idealism in a world of chaos.

Summary

An unfortunate event brings the firm together, along with the prospect of a new name partner. Diane struggles with the insanity of the world and Maia faces another hurdle in her parents' scandal. Legal drama, starring Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo, Delroy Lindo and Rose Leslie.
