Review

The Tremiti islands, an archipelago of bite-sized islands off the east coast of Italy, are known as the Pearls of the Adriatic for good reason. They’re stunning. So although Gino D’Acampo arrives in pouring rain after a bumpy helicopter ride, you’ll still envy him.

Having done some snorkelling (wading out of the sea like Daniel Craig’s 007), he barbecues fish kebabs and makes a tagliata of rib-eye steak with a delicious salad. He also visits a former prison. “I can’t believe they used to send people here as a punishment. This is paradise!” he gushes. Maybe not if you were incarcerated, Gino.

Summary

The next leg of Gino D'Acampo's trip sees him leave the mainland behind to visit the remote Tremiti Islands, an archipelago 22 miles off the coast in the middle of the Adriatic. After a tour of the largest island the chef Gino collects wild herbs and uses the morning's catch to create a fish kebab on the beach. Gino also heads out to see the world beneath the waves and explores the medieval fortress that was once a prison, before cooking his own twist on the Italian steak dinner.
