Review

Every year 1,400 babies are born in Chester Zoo. Usually their arrival bonds the group or herd, but occasionally it causes tension. In the elephants’ enclosure one of the youngsters (“a right bruiser”, according to their keeper) is trying to get new sibling Anjan out of the way, but on chimp island there’s real trouble. Zee Zee’s teenage daughter (generally agreed to be a spoilt brat) is miffed about her mum’s latest baby. However, it’s another chimp that does something distressing.

Chameleons Daphne and Mr Parsons haven’t mated yet, but the keepers are hopeful. They also know that if she turns black it means she’s not interested. How clever.

Summary

Chimp Zee Zee gives birth to a daughter and keepers hope her arrival will have a calming influence on the others. Meanwhile, chameleon Mr Parsons is set up with a young female, banteng mother Naya struggles to bond with her newly born calf, and elephant Nadita should be looking after baby Anjan, but would rather play with her boisterous cousin, Aayu.
