Review

Having ditched his laddish travelling companions, Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, the exuberant Gino D’Acampo is exploring the lesser-known east coast of Italy on his own. He started last week in Venice, but now drives slightly inland to Ravenna, famed for its Byzantine mosaics.

Then it’s on to San Marino, one of the world’s small nations, to meet their traditional crossbowmen (they won’t let him have a go, thank goodness). But, of course, there’s food too – and his recipes are remarkably simple: a classic piadina (flatbread) sandwich and a panettone and honey pudding that’s a more luxurious version of our own bread-and-butter pudding.

Summary

Gino D'Acampo continues his journey along the Adriatic coast to visit two world heritage sites. First up is Ravenna - famed for its byzantine mosaics - where Gino meets the artists who restore these ancient works and makes piadina flatbread with home-made pesto. He then heads south to the Republic of San Marino, cooking up a panettone and honey pudding.
