Review

This episode – almost like an entire series compressed into 20 minutes – is the best in some time. Not the funniest, necessarily, but the most engaging. When the end wasn’t in sight the show floundered. But knowing this is the last series has sharpened the writers’ appetites, and accelerated the action. It’s the raison d’être the show needed.

Raj gets ready to meet his potential bride Anu (Rati Gupta), Stuart takes his new date home, and Penny’s flippant remark on the subject of children (“If I saw one I wouldn’t throw a rock at it”) leads to some heartfelt discussions with Leonard. So instead of just making gags about grown-up concerns, the gang and their chat are now evolving more realistically.

Perhaps the best moment – proof that wit can be wordless – comes when Howard and Bernie realise silently and simultaneously how sad their lives have become. The pay-off is a beauty, too.

Summary

Howard and Bernadette's life becomes complicated when Stuart starts bringing his new girlfriend home. Penny and Leonard talk about starting a family, and Raj further explores the possibility of an arranged marriage.
