Brian (James Buckley) is starting a business selling an exciting new foodstuff that Munty has never seen before – you may know it as popcorn – while Barbara (Sharon Rooney) has become a Tarot reader/servant to Sadie, a spoilt dancer desperate for fame. Most deliciously, there’s also an unlikely romantic entanglement between Sally Phillips’s (not unfairly named) Slasher and Paul Kaye’s unscrupulous wizard Howell.

The satisfyingly silly fantasy caper has worked particularly well this series because of much tighter plotting. This episode is no exception – all strands come beautifully together when the mighty Protector finally visits. He’s played with fab, Sylvester McCoyish aplomb by… Sylvester McCoy, of course.
