Although we’re a few weeks into the live shows now, I’d be willing to bet that there are still plenty of X Factor viewers who are tuning in and having the same thought. Just what the heck is this?!
The X Factor
as we knew it – with its Sunday-night results show, the sing-off and Louis Walsh dithering over who leaves – is now more dead than a Steve Brookstein album signing.
In its place we have the singer who receives the fewest votes from each night automatically leaving without so much a by-your-leave, and the two acts who were voted the best over the weekend going head-to-head to win a music-themed prize, which is so devoid of jeopardy it borders on being pointless. The “Bring The X Factor results show back” campaign needs to start right now.
Dermot O'Leary presents as the musical talent show enters its third weekend of live eliminations. Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne give each act another chance to demonstrate their showmanship with an on-stage performance, this time inspired by the music of George Michael, with the viewers at home demonstrating their approval via public vote. The most popular would-be pop icons engage in a sing-off for the chance to win a `money-can't-buy' prize, and weekly rewards aren't the only new feature, as Simon and company also announced last week that double eliminations would be taking place on both Saturday and Sunday's this weekend. Plus, former X Factor contestant and breakout One Direction star Harry Styles returns to the show for a special performance.
