Liar

Series 1 - Episode 3

Review

Laura Nielson and Andrew Earlham remain entrenched in their versions of what happened on the night Laura complained she was raped.

Earlham (Ioan Gruffudd) protests his innocence and appears to get backing of a sort when creepy former headmaster Dennis Walters (Peter Davison) comes forward with an experience of his own. Maybe, once the police hear it, Earlham will be in the clear?

At the halfway point of Harry and Jack Williams’s queasily unpleasant thriller, anyone who’s stuck with it probably wonders how much further it can go and what can possibly fill the remaining three episodes.

Well, by the end we have our answer, when Liar turns into a Victorian gothic melodrama.

Summary

Laura's worst fears come to pass and her hidden past is exposed, but she must fight to put her personal struggles aside for the sake of one of her pupils, whose physical distress throws her unexpectedly at the mercy of Andrew Earlham. Vanessa also finds her resolve shaken after an unsettling encounter with Andrew.
