Review

Former Marine Monty Halls presents an adventure history series about the daring treks across Nazi Europe made by escaping prisoners of war. Retracing their routes, he celebrates the extraordinary endurance of the escapees, some of whom are still alive today.

For the first programme he visits the forests and mountains of Slovenia, where the most successful mass escape of Allied prisoners of war in the Second World War unfolded in 1944. Along the route, Monty meets the son of one of the ringleaders, and also surviving Slovenian partisans who formed a resistance network against the Nazis that was vital to the escape’s success.

Summary

Monty Halls reveals stories of Allied soldiers who escaped from Nazi territory during the Second World War, and meeting surviving veterans who share their own personal accounts.
