Review

You can view this Storyville film in one of two ways: either as a police procedural, tracking the efforts of multiple US government agencies to take down the internet drugs marketplace Silk Road, or as a philosophical treatise on the souring of a dream. Silk Road’s founder, aka “Dread Pirate Roberts”, wanted to create a libertarian utopia where people were free to take whatever drugs they chose, free from government interference and the violence of traditional drug dealing.

Either way, this is a fascinating story well told, featuring all the key players and readings from Roberts’s private journal – but sadly no interview with him giving his side of the story.

Summary

Documentary about the hunt for the people behind an online black market known as the Silk Road, which was used as the platform for a multimillion-dollar digital narcotics cartel, which promised users complete anonymity and total freedom from government regulation or scrutiny.
