Review

“Half the time I can get them to where they’re better than where they are now. But the other half I lose them,” says a sombre Noel Fitzpatrick. And that’s the trouble. All the pet owners who come into his practice – and we at home – have such faith in his surgical abilities that we can’t accept he may not be able to perform a miracle every time.

This time he’s doing high-risk surgery on a sad-looking doberman that has spinal disease, and attempting a fiddly operation on a tiny rabbit’s broken ankle. He’s also hoping that he can fulfil an owner’s wish to save her cocker spaniel’s leg following a road accident.

Summary

A man travels through the night to bring his much-loved Dobermann down from Cumbria to see orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeon Noel Fitzpatrick about a diseased spinal cord. Can the professor and his staff bring the canine back to health? Other cases this week are a cocker spaniel rushed in after being hit by a car and a rabbit that needs surgery for a broken ankle.
