Morecambe and Wise Forever

Morecambe and Wise Forever

Series 1 - Episode 1

We’ve seen any number of loving retrospectives on the kings of comedy over the years, but it’s hard to resist one more. The producers here have gone the extra mile to bring us sunshine: they take Eric Morecambe’s son and daughter to the house where he was conceived, for instance, and find the man – a stranger on the streets of Leeds – who drove Eric to the hospital after his first heart attack in 1968.

They’ve even tracked down Mary Naylor, who as a 12-year-old dancer appeared with Eric and Ernie in the show that launched them as a teenage double-act, ‘Youth Takes A Bow’. She remembers how, when they first started, Ernie was the taller of the two until, luckily for their future routines, Eric had a growth spurt.

Part one of two. Celebrating the life and work of the double act. Eric's children Gary and Gail Morecambe take a nostalgic tour of their father's birthplace and visit the house where he grew up for the first time. Eric's wife Joan tells the story of their meeting and marriage and film star Suzanne Lloyd recalls working on film That Riviera Touch.
