Series 3 - Episode 1

Review

These airport-based docs have become a genre all of their own. This is one of the better ones, returning for a third series of backstage mini-dramas at our busiest airport.

The best scenes are generally when a bizarre passenger comes up against an immovable employee. Veteran Passenger Experience Manager Sue has to deal with a man from Doha who is wonderfully unwilling to accept that his onward flight to Dublin departs from Gatwick. “You are a representative of the richest country in the world!” he protests, irrelevantly.

Then there’s the woman who refuses to accept that a whole trolley’s-worth of hand luggage might be excessive. Luckily, Sue has been handling people like this for 20 years.

Summary

The behind-the-scenes documentary returns to Heathrow, following the lives of the staff working in Europe's biggest and busiest airport. In the first episode, a passenger arrives from Doha for a connection to Dublin, but realises they have mistakenly booked from Gatwick, and it is up to Experience Manager Sue to assist him. Elsewhere Dave, a Senior Flight Officer, flies to Seattle to collect a new 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and engineering apprentice Matt heads out onto the runway to calibrate the arrival lights.
