The first match of the day, Millwall v Watford, comes amid growing anxiety about the future of the Lions’ stadium, with mysterious property deals making the forced relocation of the club a dangerous possibility. A noon Sunday kick-off isn’t exactly the easiest time to prepare a show of force, but live TV is surely too good an opportunity to miss for Den devotees eager to make their presence felt.
At the other end of the spectrum, Manchester United compete in an unprecedented 56th consecutive televised FA Cup match, against 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic.
It’s a classic Sunday of sport on the BBC: as well as two live FA Cup games on BBC1 there are highlights of the Australian Open men’s singles final on BBC2, and then live bowls. Just when you thought days like this on terrestrial TV were long gone.
Summary
Millwall v Watford (Kick-off 12.00pm). Mark Chapman introduces coverage of the opening fourth-round fixture of the day, which takes place at The Den. Millwall produced one of the outstanding results of the third round when they defeated Premier League outfit Bournemouth 3-0, and will fancy their chances of another upset against the Hornets, who are likely to rest key players as they concentrate on arresting their recent slide in the top flight.
