There are few things better than catching a stand-up comic just as they’ve mastered their craft. That’s the feeling you get watching this episode's host, Joe Lycett, who’s been popping up regularly on panel shows and the like for years. In this set, his Kenneth Williams sneer, sudden changes of direction (“Anyone in from Isis?”) and precisely articulated disdain all come together. If you’ve seen him read out his email battles with jobsworths on Eight out of Ten Cats Does Countdown, you’ll enjoy the story of an in-person encounter with a post office clerk: “She’s so smug she’s got one of those faces that’s folded in on itself. Like someone’s punched a quiche.”
Ably supporting Lycett are self-deprecating Eton alumnus Ivo Graham, and Phil Wang, with his simple but effective catchphrase, “Phil Wang!”
Summary
Stand-up comedian and author Joe Lycett plays host in this show recorded before a packed house at London's Hammersmith Apollo. He warms up the audience and then introduces routines by fellow funny men Ivo Graham and Phil Wang.
