Michael McIntyre's Big Show

Series 2 - Episode 3

Glenn Hoddle mostly appears on our screens offering football wisdom along the lines of “He goes down far too easy there, for my liking” or “It’s the gulf in quality up front”. What we may never have realised about Glenn is that he is a very fine method actor, and entirely convincing when, as in this show, he has to pretend to bump into an unsuspecting Spurs fan three times in one week.

It’s part of an elaborate Candid Camera-style prank cooked up by McIntyre and co to trick car salesman Rich from Basildon. “You do realise I can’t sing,” says Rich when he cottons on, but it’s OK, because the unexpected star of the show, performing a positively operatic version of You’ll Never Walk Alone is the magnificent Leanne from Leeds. If there has ever been a cooler, calmer, taking-it-all-in-my-stride reaction to being asked to sing your heart out on a West End stage and national TV, I’d be surprised.

The lively comedian's entertainment revue continues, as he invites fellow comedy star Sarah Millican to take to the stage, and indie-pop singer-songwriter Tom Odell also performs. It's Carol Vorderman's turn to take up residence in the royal box, and Michael harrasses her friends and family via Sent To All, and a mother-of-two is given a moment in the spotlight when she becomes the Unexpected Star of the Show - but not before she pays a trip to the Unexpected Bar, where she bumps into her idol, Westlife's Shane Filan.
