Episode 1: New York

Summary

Comedian Katherine Ryan joins host Richard Ayoade on a 48-hour ram raid of the Big Apple. The duo's packed-to-overflow schedule sees them scale tall buildings, grab some culture in museums large and small and even attempt to rollerblade. Experiences include trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rockefeller Centre, queuing at the hottest patisserie in Manhattan for a cronut, and enjoying a free ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty. There's even time for Richard to reach the point of meltdown

Review

Reluctant jetsetter Richard Ayoade spends 48 hours in New York with comedian Katherine Ryan in tow. The usually spiky Canadian comedian is an excitable kitten compared with the gloriously deadpan Ayoade. “This is densely clustered,” he observes while admiring the view from the top of the Rockefeller Center.

They also cram in a whistle-stop tour of The Met, a cronut (a doughnut crossed with a croissant) and a rollerblading session in Central Park. “I feel like a retired Dalek,” mutters Ayoade, and proceeds to do an excellent impression of one. Next week: he and Hollywood star Paul Rudd take on Helsinki.
