Review

He wouldn’t be Piers Morgan if he heeded his detractors. Even so, this is a provocative choice of guest: Jim Davidson is in the studio to discuss his, shall we say, controversial career. Davidson’s old stand-up routines are a byword for the sort of bigoted comedy that these days bars you from mainstream stardom, but in the 80s and 90s Jim was a big name on TV, hosting Saturday stalwarts Big Break and The Generation Game.

Now he is to some extent repentant, although his fear of “bonkers women” and gay men seems to be intact. Among the topics covered tonight are his five marriages, his arrest under Operation Yewtree and his work for the armed forces.

Summary

The host talks to controversial comedian Jim Davidson about his life, from his role presenting The Generation Game and Big Break to alcohol addiction, domestic violence allegations and an arrest under Operation Yewtree, for which he was subsequently cleared. Davidson also addresses accusations of racism and homophobia, and discusses the support he has given to members of the armed forces over the years - including the charity he co-founded, Care After Combat.
