The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard

The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard

Series 1 - Episode 2

It’s the start of the Easter holidays and a teachers-go-free ticket giveaway on the North York Moors Railway has backfired on PR manager Laura. She’s made a mistake and is giving away 100 tickets a day, instead of 100 throughout the entire break. None of this is earth-shattering and everyone laughs, which is pretty much the tone of this most gentle of documentary series.

“We want people to be happy, we want them to have a lovely day out,” says ticket collector Bert as he wanders the carriages of an extended train to the seaside resort of Whitby. Even when the train grinds to a halt for 20 minutes, no one minds.

The start of the Easter timetable at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway finds marketing manager Laura devising a stunt to get some much-needed publicity. As the Tour de Yorkshire cycling race winds through the county, she plans to put one of their steam engines along the route to get the line some TV coverage. However, Piglet is tasked to fix an engine that Laura wants to be on display. Meanwhile, general manager Chris reveals how some of the bridges are in desperate need of repair - a £5million project that the already cash-strapped railway will struggle to cover.
