Review
by
Jack Seale
A much more eventful episode than the one shown on Christmas Day, with three plotlines competing for attention: Cathy’s desperate for a new man, Bono wants to go to his first school disco, and everyone’s on the hunt for a local petty criminal. None of those leads to a funny or unpredictable pay-off, but who cares?
They provide plenty of opportunity for slapstick, swearing and that failsafe of the festive sitcom special, characters gratuitously dressing up as superheroes. There are also more and better gags, although the best one, when Winnie (Eilish O’Carroll) responds to a pensive Agnes musing that “I’m torn”, is best not repeated.
Summary
Father Damien organises a neighbourhood patrol to tackle the rising amount of crime in Finglas, but it quickly becomes clear that Agnes and Winnie are not exactly cut out for catching criminals. Meanwhile, Cathy has had yet another disastrous internet date, so Mrs Brown takes some unorthodox steps to sort out her daughter's love life once and for all. Second of two festive specials, starring Brendan O'Carroll, Eilish O'Carroll and Jennifer Gibney.
