Review

They’re stripping highlights of this festival in hour-long programmes over the next six evenings, but specifics are scant – Sky Arts is doing the bare minimum to publicise its shows at present.

Held largely at London’s Southbank, Darbar is an annual celebration of Indian classical music – both the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions – with rare UK appearances from India’s most popular acts. This September, Shankar Mahadevan premiered his show Krishna, and Hariharan presented a concert of ghazals (a poetic form in rhyming couplets).

With any luck Sky will pick some of the tranche of Darbar dance goodies that were also staged at Sadler’s Wells.
